Hot Waiver Wire Picks - Week 15

Who You Should be Keeping Your Eye on

Every week the Freaks will give you insight into who you should try to grab off of the waiver wire for the upcoming week.

Drafting is only one component of a successful season. Using the waiver wire to your advantage can get you key wins and can eventually lead to a championship.

Whether or not a player is available in your league will depend on your roster size and league makeup.

Quarterbacks

Brian Griese (Chicago Bears)

The Bears are another team that has been shuffling their quarterbacks this year but this time it looks like Griese will start for at least one week since Rex Grossman is out for the rest of the reason with a leg injury. The last time Griese played well was in week five when he faced the Vikings (26-of-45 for 381 yards and three touchdowns) and guess who the Bears face this week?  You got it. There is a chance that Kyle Orton could get the start but at this point I think that Griese will start this week.

Kyle Orton (Chicago Bears)

This is a flyer more than anything but the Bears will be playing for 2008 at some point and Orton will probably get a chance to start a couple of games since the Bears will be changing their quarterback in the off-season. Orton didn’t show much in his rookie year but he hasn’t played since 2005.  If he puts up decent numbers then he could be the starter going into the off-season.

Shaun Hill (San Francisco 49ers)

The 49ers are having all kinds of problems with their quarterback position this year. Alex Smith is out with a shoulder injury and on Sunday his replacement Trent Dilfer was knocked out of the game with an apparent concussion. vHill is nothing to write home about, this past summer he was playing in NFL Europe. The 49ers have been terrible on offense all year so he won’t be worth owning unless you want to take a flyer on him in leagues that must start two quarterbacks.

Todd Collins (Washington Redskins)

Thursday night ended up being a terrible one for quarterbacks as both Rex Grossman and Jason Campbell got knocked out. Campbell is out for the season with a dislocated patella (kneecap). Collins took over for him and went 15-of-20 for 224 yards and two touchdowns.  Some people think that this was a fluke but Joe Gibbs stated that Collins knows what everyone should be doing on every play and points out when someone misses their assignment.  This means the Redskins won’t have to dumb down their playbook so Collins will be worth owning in leagues that require two starting quarterbacks.

Running Backs

Darius Walker (Houston Texans)

Ron Dayne missed most of Sunday’s game with an ankle injury and Walker, not Adimchinobi Echemandu, got a majority of the carries.  Walker, drafted out of Notre Dame in April, took advantage and had 16 carries for 46 yards.  The Texans play on Thursday this week so Dayne won’t have time to heal so Walker could end up being the starter against the Broncos

Samkon Gado (Miami Dolphins)

Surprisingly the Dolphins made Jesse Chatman inactive on Sunday and handled the starting job to Gado and not Lorenzo Booker.  Gado took advantage of the situation as he posted 52 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns; he also added 2 receptions for 41 yards. Not bad for someone who the Dolphins cut a couple of weeks ago and then re-signed when Ricky Williams was lost for the season.
