Ronnie Brown
(RB - Miami)
| |
07/06/2008 |
|
According to the
Miami Herald,
Brown, who is optimistic he will be 100 percent by the start of the season, said he believes he quickly will return to his
pre-injury form, when he was leading the league in total yards from scrimmage and averaging 5.1 yards per carry though Week 7.
"I feel good, feel no hesitation," said Brown, who expects to be cleared for contact when camp opens July 26.
|
|
So how do NFL backs respond in their first year off a torn ACL? Edgerrin James averaged 4.4 yards per carry the year before
(2000), 3.6 the year after (2002) but 4.1 and 4.6 in '03 and '04. Terry Allen (4.5 year before, 4.0 year after) and Jamal
Anderson (4.5, 3.6) also fell off initially but still topped 1,000 yards in their first year back. (Anderson tore his other ACL
a year later.) But Jamal Lewis, who tore his ACL in 2001 training camp, had virtually no fall-off (4.4 in 2000, 4.3 in '02, 5.3
in '03).

Antwaan Randle El
(WR - Washington)
| |
07/06/2008 |
|
According to the
Washington Post,
Randle El, who participated in minicamp in May, had surgery May 6 to remove floating cartilage in his right knee. He had hoped
to recover in time to take part in the minicamp, but his knee did not cooperate. "It's coming along," he said. "I've been doing
some jogging and a little sprinting, so it has been feeling better than what it had been [the first few weeks after the
procedure], and that's a good sign. Would I rather be out there right now? No question about it, but we said we were going to be
smart about it. We're going to take our time to make sure it's right for the season. That's the most important thing."
|
|
Randle El is coming off his best season, 51 receptions for 728 yards and a touchdown, but he is no better than a 4th receiver
in most leagues.

Ernest Graham
(RB - Tampa Bay)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
Tampa Bay Tribune,
Graham, the four-year veteran running back who put together a breakout season in 2007, agreed to terms late Sunday on a
multiyear contract extension believed to be worth at least $10 million. The extension should keep Graham in a Bucs uniform
through at least the 2011 season and all but assures the Bucs of having their reigning rushing leader on hand for the start of
training camp next month.
|
|
Graham's extension comes in the wake of his best season yet, one in which he filled in for injured tailbacks Cadillac Williams
and Michael Pittman and ran 222 times for 898 yards and 10 touchdowns in 10 starts.

Frank Gore
(RB - San Francisco)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
Sacramento Bee,
Mike Martz said running back Frank Gore was quick on the playing field and even quicker in the classroom this spring. "He's a
one-time guy. You tell him once, and he has it," the 49ers' offensive coordinator said of Gore, who is entering his fourth
season. "That's really a remarkable quality. He really learns fast. He's a very sharp guy. So that means you can use him in a
variety of ways."
|
|
Upon joining the 49ers, Martz said he would build his offense around Gore the way he once built the St. Louis Rams' offenses
around Marshall Faulk. Martz also has been impressed with Michael Robinson, the biggest of the 49ers' three running backs, who
also is adept as a pass catcher. Martz said he envisions scenarios in which Gore and Robinson are in the offensive backfield
together.

Deuce McAllister
(RB - New Orleans)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
New Orleans Times Picayune,
McAllister went down with season-ending knee injury last season. McAllister tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee
in Week 3 against Tennessee. In addition to the left ACL repair, he also underwent microfacture surgery on his right knee to
repair cartilage from a previous injury. "I'm proud and pleased with (my progress)," said McAllister, who was practicing in a
limited fashion with his teammates last month and taking part in the individual position drills. "I don't know if there's really
a 'next benchmark' to be met on my part. It's pretty much just getting out there and trying to make plays. That's what I'm
looking forward to."
|
|
McAllister said he has been able to stay in good shape, but he admitted that his conditioning isn't quite up to "football
strength" just yet. That only comes with the rigors of daily practices. A healthy McAllister will cut in the Reggie Bush's
playing time but many have questioned Bush's ability to be an every down back.

Brodie Croyle
(QB - Kansas City)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
Kansas City Star,
Coach Herm Edwards reiterated that Croyle’s job is safe and that he will enter training camp as the starter. "It’s his team now,"
Edwards said at Spratt Stadium on the Missouri Western campus in St. Joseph. "But he knows that, really to win them over, he’s
got to win." Croyle’s competition last year, Damon Huard, will not have his job so clearly defined. Huard spent the last four
weeks as the No. 3 quarterback, behind second-year passer Tyler Thigpen. Thigpen spent most of last season on the practice
squad, before a knee injury ended his season four games early.
|
|
We don't think a lot of the Chiefs offense so let someone else draft Croyle.

|
Terry Glenn
(WR - Dallas)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
Fort Worth Star Telegram,
Glenn was barred from working out during off-season team activities and minicamp because he refused to sign an injury waiver to
protect the team in case he reinjured his surgically repaired right knee. The Cowboys had threatened to cut him if he didn't
sign the waiver, and a defiant Glenn asked for his release earlier this month.
|
|
Glenn was sidelined for the first 15 games last season after undergoing two arthroscopic surgeries on his right knee. The
Cowboys kept him on the active roster, hoping he might be able to help them in the playoffs. Glenn played four plays and never
made an impact. There are those in the organization who think Glenn’s return for the playoffs might have had a negative impact
on his replacement, Patrick Crayton.

|
Joe Jurevicius
(WR - Cleveland)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
Akron Beacon Journal,
Jurevicius had his second knee surgery since January on Monday, a procedure that could prevent him from reporting to training
camp on time. Jurevicius had swelling and discomfort in his knee related to his first operation, and the club said in a
statement released today that he had a further "clean out" on Monday to help him recover. The team said no determination has
been made on Jurevicius' status for training camp, which opens July 23.
|
|
Jurevicius is projected to be the Browns No.3 receiver, behind Braylon Edwards and Donte Stallworth. The Browns passing game
was improved last year but beware of the slip back in 2008. Last year they faced the NFC West (Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle
and St. Louis) who aren't exactly known for their passing defense. This year they face the NFC East (Dallas, NY Giants,
Philadelphia and Washington) who always put pressure on the quarterback.

Najeh Davenport
(RB - Free Agent)
| |
07/05/2008 |
|
According to the
Arizona Republic,
Davenport, released earlier this week by the Steelers, told Sirius NFL Radio that he is targeting the Lions and Cardinals as
potential new employers.
|
|
If Davenport gets a job he will be the 3rd or 4th running back on the depth chart so he won't have any fantasy value.
