The
Sandman - Brian Billick
During
a week when there were many outstanding performances, I have decided to
give my award to Brian Billick. Why? Well, this man has managed to lead
his team into first place despite quarterbacks with no experience,
starting wide receivers who would be 3rd or 4th on most teams and a
defense that is so-so (remember Matt Hasselbeck lit them up for 5
touchdowns only a couple of weeks ago). There is no doubt that the
Ravens have a great running back in Jamal Lewis but that is basically
it. Lots of teams have a great running back and they stink. (i.e. The
San Diego Chargers and LaDainian Tomlinson) Billick has taken a team
that has no business finishing with a better than average record and has
shown them the road to the top of the AFC Central. |

StingRay
- Clinton Portis
Clinton
Portis is the most dangerous back in football because he can take it the
distance on any given play. In week 14, which is the playoffs for most
of us Portis owners, we jumped for joy while opposing owners screamed in
agony as their fantasy season went good-bye. Portis had two touchdowns
in the first half but he had only 30 yards rushing. Then in the second
half he broke touchdown runs of 59, 28 and 53 yards.
Even with the missed games and games that he left early due to the chest
injury Portis is only 11 yards behind Ahman Green who is the number two
rusher in the league. I have a feeling Portis will pass him before the
season is through.

Smokin'
Joe - New England Defense
The
Patriots Shut out the Dolphins on Sunday clinching first place in the
AFC East in the process. This was their second shut out of the season
and they are the first team since the 1930's to not allow a touchdown in
four straight home games. An amazing statistic but let’s get down to
fantasy scoring.
It's playoff time in most leagues and I imagine any owner who started
New England's Defense is very happy. The Patriots had the greatest
defensive performance of the year and of recent memory. They posted
points for a shut out, five sacks, two interceptions including one for a
defensive touchdown by linebacker Tedy Bruschi, a safety, a forced
fumble and they held the Dolphins offense to a total of only 134 net
yards. This performance earned them a total of 39 points in one of my
leagues. The only other team to break 30 points for a defense was the
49ers in week 1 when they had 31.
A great game from a true team defense and my "Freak of the
Week".
