The
Sandman - Carolina Special Teams
I know that special teams don't have a
huge impact on fantasy football but if you had Martin Gramatica as your
kicker it meant a lot. This week the Panthers field goal team blocked
two field goals and a potential game winning extra point.
When Brad Johnson connected with Keenan McCardell with no time left on
the clock you figured that Carolina pulled one out last week so
turn-about is fair play. Not so fast my friend. After the ball was
snapped, the left guard got pushed back like a security guard guarding a
chocolate cake at a fat farm. This caused Gramatica, who had never
missed an extra point, to kick the ball directly into the arm of Kris
Jenkins. By the way, last week the Panthers blocked a field goal and a
punt. It's might get to the point were you have to bench your kicker
because they are playing the Panthers.

StingRay
- Ahman Green
Ahman Green had another solid outing
on Sunday. Green carried the ball 23 times for 160 yards against Detroit
which included a spectacular 65 yard touchdown run. I was worried about
Ahman Green after a sub-par year last season but after 2 weeks he has
rushed for 213 yards which ranks him 4th in the league in rushing. He is
tied for third in touchdowns with 3 trailing only Priest Holmes and
Travis Henry who both have 5 TDs. If you are an Ahman Green owner you
have to like what you've seen so far and with an upcoming week 3 match
up against Arizona it appears that Ahman will keep putting up great
fantasy numbers.

CrunchTime
- Billy Cundiff
Each week we are looking for that
golden match-up that can win us our game. Some of us are lucky
enough to know where it's coming from (see Priest Holmes) but most of
us aren't. Typically these blow-up games come from players at
your key positions who contribute consistently, but every once in
awhile you get a freak occurrence. This week was such a case.
Cundiff tied an NFL record with 7 field
goals on Monday and almost had 8. With his rousing effort he not
only catapulted the Cowboys and Parcells to a victory, he likely
locked a win for anyone lucky enough to have started him (although
there probably weren't many people who did).
Never have Iseen a scenario where a
kicker rivals the fantasy points of a running back with a solid
outing. Let alone put up comparable numbers to one who broke the
single game rushing record. Unbelievable.
Rush to the waiver wire now my friends.
He is probably out there waiting and with the style of football likely
to take place in Dallas this year we are sure to see plenty more
attempts off the foot of this week's Monday Night Freak.
