Freak of the Week - Week 3

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

The Sandman - The Undrafted Wide Receivers

I have been playing and monitoring fantasy football for over ten years and I have never seen so many non-drafted, non-started receivers score touchdowns.   I mean players like Reggie Wayne, Kelly Campbell, Andre Johnson, Jerome Pathon and Darnerien McCants who were all top ten receivers this week.

In the meantime, fantasy studs such as Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens and Joe Horn did nothing.  What is going on here?  Fantasy owners draft players who should get the ball in the red zone and these no-names killed many fantasy owners this week.

That said, you have to give props to the receivers who did produce, so for this week, and hopefully only this week, I open my sand castle to them.

StingRay - Jake Plummer

Much-maligned Denver quarterback Jake Plummer played an error free game on Monday night as the Broncos stomped their hated rival the Oakland Raiders.  Jake was 14-21 for 197 yards and 2 scores with an additional touchdown on the ground.

Since Plummer's terrible week 1 debut he has thrown 5 touchdowns and no interceptions.  The pundits out there who want to criticize Jake will have to bite their tongues for a little longer as he has the Broncos off to a 3-0 start.

Hindsight - Michael PIttman

It’s too bad that Tampa Bay changed their all-orange uniforms because then Michael Pittman could wear his prison jumpsuit to practices. (Gee, I can hear the boos.)

Cheap jokes aside, Pittman shrugged off his off-field troubles in week 3 and had an inspired game against the hapless Falcons.

While it was nice to see him return to form and lead all rushers with 20 carries for 82 yards, it was eye-popping to watch him lead the team in receptions with 7 for another 82 yards and a score. Those are elite fantasy-back type numbers and it will be interesting to see how he follows it up in week 4.

Smokin' Joe - Patrick Ramsey

Ramsey had over 350 yards combined and two touchdowns in each of the last two games. He did this against two above average defenses in the Falcons (week 2) and The Giants (week 3).

I was very impressed with the way he almost won this game by himself.  Ramsey completed 4 passes for 82 yards in the final drive for a field goal which sent the game to overtime.

This second year player is showing his value as not only a capable NFL player but he is now a viable starter in Fantasy leagues and my FREAK OF THE WEEK.
