Freak of the Week - Week 8

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

The Sandman - John Kasay

It is very rare that a kicker will be made a Freak-of-the-Week but you have to look at how John Kasay has produced this year. First off, he is 17-of-17 in field goal attempts and 6 of them have been from 45 yards or greater. Just ask the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots how important this type of consistency is. Secondly, he's made overtime kicks against the Saints, Colts and Buccaneers, all on the road. Every year a few kickers lead a charmed life with scoring; this season, Kasay is one of those guys. This from a guy who wasn't even drafted in most leagues.

StingRay - Domanick Davis

When Stacey Mack was benched two weeks ago and Davis was named the starter many of your freaks including yours truly immediately picked him up. In his first start he had 199 yards combined against the Jets but Mack was the one who scored two touchdowns. On Sunday, Davis had 25 carries for 109 yards except this time it was his turn to score two touchdowns. (He also had 7 receptions for 27 yards.)

You have to love a back who rushes over a 100 yards in both of his first two starts. What makes him so valuable is the amount of times he touches the ball. He touched the ball 32 times this week and the week before he touched the ball 36 times. Right now Davis might be the best waiver wire pick up of the season. If he's still available in your league get him now!

Smokin' Joe - Tampa Bay Defense

Everyone had the Bucs ranked number one this pre-season and if you drafted them you must have jumped early to pick them up. This past Sunday they faced a Dallas offense that was averaging over 333 yards per game. Ronde Barber was the only healthy player in the secondary who started last year’s Super Bowl and it looked like the Bucs could be in big trouble.

How did they respond? They pitched a shutout and held the Cowboys to a season low 178 total yards from scrimmage. Add on the four sacks and two interceptions they racked up and you have a defense that won quite a few fantasy games for their owners on Sunday and my "Freak of the Week."
