The
Sandman - Marcel Shipp
Let
me take you down memory lane for a minute. During the summer when the
Arizona Cardinals signed Emmitt Smith I stated how puzzled I was. Sure
they might put another 10 people in the stadium but it was going to hurt
their team. Why? Marcel Shipp is why. Last year, when Thomas Jones was
benched, Shipp stepped up to the plate and averaged 4.4 yards per carry.
Not only can he run but he also has great hands. In 2002 he had 39
receptions for 413 yards.
This year Shipp was on our preseason sleeper list and now you know why.
I predicted that when Emmitt got hurt, let's face it we all knew that he
would get hurt at some point during the season, Shipp would take the job
and never give it back. He has 334 total yards in two games since being
named the starter and would you believe that the Cardinals have won
those two games?
This past week he basically carried the Cardinals on his back, rushing
for 141 yards on 29 carries, for an average of 4.9 yards per rush. That
was only 25 less yards than Jeff Blake threw for and in the fourth
quarter when the Cardinals needed a first down to clinch the win, Shipp
came through. I would like to say that the Cardinals' Shipp has finally
come in to his own, but that would be too much of a cliché. This
kid is on the rise and will be the next Jamal Lewis in two years, trust
me on this one.

StingRay
- Santana Moss
Touchdown
Santana Moss. Touchdown Santana Moss! I can't believe it, another
touchdown for Santana Moss!
I
told you last week in my weekly "Do You See What I See"
article that Moss was on fire and that Pennington would throw the ball
to him like he threw it to Coles last season. In the battle of New York,
Moss was phenomenal catching 10 passes for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns.
In
his last 4 games Moss has caught 6 touchdowns and has had two 100-yard
receiving games. When the season began I had serious doubts about the
Jets passing game but Hindsight told me that Pennington was the real
deal and the Jets passing game will be fine. Well, if Pennington is the
real deal then he and Moss may be a lethal combination the rest of the
season.

Smokin'
Joe - Dwight Freeney
It's
not often that you see a defensive player nominated for "Freak of
the Week" so when it happens you know something special occurred.
Freeney
dominated the Dolphins' offensive line all afternoon. He posted
three sacks and forced two fumbles, both of which were recovered by his
teammates.
His
last sack forced a fumble and the stopped the Dolphins dead in their
tracks ending their comeback bid. Dwight showed he can score
fantasy points with the best of them on Sunday and he is my "Freak
of the Week".
