StingRay - Drew
Brees and Antonio Gates
What a season Drew Brees is having. I
told you in my week 9
Do You See What I See article to pick him up if he was still
available. Brees completed 22 out of 36 passes for 257 yards and 4
touchdowns. Drew has thrown 9 touchdowns and no interceptions the last
two weeks. On the season he has 18 touchdown passes and only 3
interceptions. Brees has also ran in a touchdown so he has 19 total
scores in 2004 which is a career high.
Drew came into this season looking like
the odd man out and now he is a serious MVP candidate. One thing Brees
has going for him is super stud tight end Antonio Gates. Gates
caught three of the four touchdown passes that Brees threw against New
Orleans. In fact, Gates has caught 10 passes for 119 yards and five
touchdowns the last two weeks. Right now Gates is the best tight end in
fantasy and he’s keeping Tony Gonzalez a close second.
I had Brees and Gates playing against
Smokin' Joe in one of my leagues and they were a joy to watch!
Keep up the good work guys and you both will be Freak of the Weeks
again. I’m sure of it.

Smokin' Joe -
Adam Vinatieri
Vinatieri was 4 of 4 on field goal
attempts, 4 of 4 on extra points and 1 for 1 on pass attempts for
touchdowns. I expected him to have a good game in the Edward Jones dome
in St Louis, but 8 for 8 with a touchdown is the definition of
"Freak-like" for a kicker. He posted a season high for kickers with 28
points. Only five quarterbacks outscored Adam on Sunday. WOW!

The Sandman -
Michael Pittman
After fantasy turmoil in the Tampa Bay
backfield for most of the year a star is emerging. Michael Pittman had a
huge game with 158 total yards and 3 touchdowns against the Chiefs. This
was his second straight game with over 150 total yards. Pittman,
suspended for the first four weeks of the season, has always had the
talent but now he is getting the opportunity.
Pittman has had some luck to get to were he is today. Back in Week 1,
Charlie Garner was the starter and it looked like he would be the man
since he was back with his old coach for whom he had his best years.
Three weeks into the season, Garner injured his knee and was done for
the year. After Pittman returned from suspension he started to
share time with Mike Alstott. The plan was for Pittman to get the
yards but Alstott would get the touchdowns. In week seven, Alstott
suffered a sprained MCL that would
sideline him for up to a month.
Certainly Pittman has had some breaks to get to where he is but he is
proving that he can be a fantasy stud in the correct situation. For his
outstanding back-to-back and belly-to-belly performances, I elect
Michael Pittman as my Freak of the Week.
