StingRay
-
Mark Brunell
Mark Brunell may be having the best
season of his entire NFL career. Last year he was arguably the worst
quarterback in football and people wondered if Joe Gibbs made a mistake
by bringing in the veteran.
On Sunday against the 49ers Brunell led
Washington to a 52-17 victory. Mark threw for 252 yards, 3
touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Brunell has thrown for 3 touchdowns in
back-to-back games and he’s thrown for at least 2 touchdowns in every
game he has started.

Smokin Joe -
Daunte Culpepper
Culpepper has been a two time nominee for
the Hall of Shame this year so I felt it was important to point out that
he performed well this week. He didn't have the best game of his career,
but he did finish with over 330 yards combined and two touchdowns. A
great game in a big spot for the Vikings organization. They are now 2-4
and trail the Bears and Lions by one game for first place in the
division.
If Culpepper can continue to play at this
level the off the field issues might remain in the background.

CrunchTime -
Clinton Portis
Last year Portis struck on his first play
from scrimmage. This year he had 104 carries without reaching the end
zone. This probably didn’t bother him a whole lot during their first
three games, but it definitely was on his mind in their last two losses
and during the bye week.
After looking ridiculous in his pre-game
attire, consisting of a white, shaggy wig and bizarre glasses, he looked
to be all business once the game got started. On 19 carries he posted
101 yards, but more importantly he found the end zone three times. Maybe
even more impressive was that he didn’t break any long runs to get his
scores. He simply posted solid runs each time he touched the ball.
Result? He’s my Freak of the Week.

The Sandman -
Lamont Jordan
During the week LaMont Jordan was very
vocal about carrying the team on his shoulders, especially with the
probability that Randy Moss wasn’t going to play. Well, for once, a
player backed up his words.
Against the 30th ranked rushing defense,
Jordan had 122 yards and 3 touchdowns. This performance should help
Jordan get more touches and that is music to the ears of his owners.
