Freak of the Week - Week 9

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

StingRay - Neil Rackers

The best kicker in fantasy football was at it again on Sunday. Neil Rackers went 4 for 4 on Sunday, hitting field goals from 23, 31, 50 and 44 yards out.  In my league that was a 20 points showing.

Rackers has put up double digit points in six out of Arizona’s eight games.  The two games that he did not have double digits  Rackers scored 9 points.

That is serious production from a kicker who didn't go until the later rounds in most fantasy drafts.

Smokin Joe - Antonio Gates

If you are in a league where you must start a tight end you know how valuable Gates has been to his owners.  Gates put up eight catches for 132 yards in a big win for the Chargers yesterday.

Antonio leads all tight ends in catches, yards, touchdowns and most important to our readers...fantasy points. The next closest tight end Jeremy Shockey is 23 points behind, Alge Crumpler is third is scoring 48 points behind Gates.

13 points was not the most a by a tight end yesterday but I felt another average week for Gates still deserved recognition.

CrunchTime - Shaun Alexander

It is once again completely obvious why Shaun was dubbed “Alexander the Great” at the University of Alabama. Everyone thinks of him as a touchdown machine, which is fair considering he’s had almost 2 touchdowns per week, but he’s more than that. His 173 yards on Sunday put him in complete control of the yardage race among running backs.

He now has 949 rushing yards through 8 games and a 114 yard lead on Tomlinson. His 7.5 yards per carry this week helped boost him to a healthy 5.4 yards per carry on the season and earned him a nod as a Freak of the Week.

The Sandman - LaDanaian Tomlinson

Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Eagles defense held the best running back in football to only 7 rushing yards. Last week Tomlinson had only 69 yards rushing against the Chiefs. His owners were starting to worry that teams had figured out how to stop him.

Everyone relax. L.T. showed that he is still the best back in the business with his 157 total yards and four touchdowns, the most in his career for a single game. Of all the plays Tomlinson made, the best was when he made Jets cornerback Ty Law take a seat after catching a ball out of the backfield.

L.T. has a bye this week so he should be rested for the fantasy home stretch.
