Freak of the Week - Week 3

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

StingRay - Matt Hasselbeck

Matt Hasselbeck was unstoppable on Sunday and it was pure torture watching him throw 5 touchdowns since I was playing against him in one of my leagues.

The Giants gave Hasselbeck all day to throw and he picked them apart.  He was 24 of 33 for 227 yards and although he did throw 3 interceptions, the game was already decided at that point.

Congratulations Matt on bringing smiles to all of your owners on Sunday.

CrunchTime - Brian Westbrook

Every once in a while players have truly nasty games. This week Westbrook did just that.  Having a 27 yard touchdown reception for one touchdown definitely helped, but what really made it an outstanding day was his 71 yard rushing touchdown that really cracked the game wide open. When you add to that another rushing touchdown his 164 all purpose yards and 3 touchdowns made this one of the most impressive outings of the year.

More impressive is the efficiency with which he did it. With only 8 carries and 4 receptions he averaged over 13 yards per touch, and a touchdown every 4th time he got the ball.

That's definitely Freakish.

The Sandman - Redskins Offensive Line

It is very rare that I give my Freak of the Week to a unit, but this week the Redskins offensive line earned this award.  They had three achievements that earned them this honor;

(1) The running backs rushed for 234 yards on 41 carries, 5.70 yards per carry.

(2) They didn’t allow a sack, after allowing six last week

(3) They allowed Mark Brunell to tie an NFL record with 22 straight completions.

Doing one of these is admirable but all three in one game, that’s Freakish.
