Freak of the Week - Week 4

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

StingRay - Laurence Maroney

All preseason the hype was around Reggie Bush but after 4 weeks of the NFL season it’s clear to everyone who the best rookie running back is in fantasy football and that’s Laurence Maroney.

His first carry in the NFL was a 27 yard run. In game 2 he scored his first touchdown. Week 3 against Denver he had a 31 yard screen in which he made some unbelievable moves. In week 4 Maroney turned in his best performance of the season. He had 15 carries for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also added another 15 yards receiving.

While ESPN continues to tell us how great Bush is those of us who actually understand fantasy football would not even think about trading Maroney for Bush. Not only is Maroney bigger and stronger but he’s explosive with great hands. He’s everything you want in a back and if you have him in a keeper league he will keep you smiling for years to come.

CrunchTime - Marc Bulger

This week the Rams squared off against the coordinator that made their offense one of the most feared in the league. Many thought his departure would significantly slow their productivity, so it must have felt good to really light up the Lions this week.

Bulger had a phenomenal outing with 26 completions for 328 yards and 3 scores. Most importantly that last touchdown pass to Bruce gave them the win. It's also nice to see someone putting up gaudy numbers without all of the interceptions to go with it.

The Sandman - Mike Martz

I believe that when a player and/or coach get a chance to stick it to their former team they try harder. That was the case the past week when Martz faced the Rams, the team he coached last year. Martz showed that he was still an offensive genius as the Lions put up almost 400 yards in offense.

The Lions looked like they couldn't get out of their own way last year but Martz has totally changed the Lions offense. His presence finally makes all of their key players worth owning.
