Freak of the Week - Week 5

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

StingRay - Matt Leinart

My Freak of the week goes to Matt Leinart.  In his NFL debut as a starter, Leinart completed 22 out of 35 passes for 253 yards, 2 touchdowns and one interception.  Leinart did this against a Kansas City secondary that was rated 2nd against the pass. He also did this without the services of Larry Fitzgerald for most of the game after he left due to a hamstring injury.

I was very impressed with Leinart but don’t play him this upcoming week against Chicago.

CrunchTime - Alex Smith

Shockingly, the number 2 fantasy player in the league this week was not only a 49er, but was their former first round selection quarterback Alex Smith. While he was second in fantasy points he was number 1 in passer rating with a lofty 120.5.

While many may not value the outing because it was against Oakland, to me the cornerstone of good fantasy players is their ability to deliver with good match-ups. Smith did just that by connecting on 15 of 19 for 3 touchdowns.

So on his first multi-touchdown game, he also gets his first mention as a Freak of the Week.

The Sandman - Donovan McNabb

Usually when a game has as much hype as this week's Dallas / Philadelphia game it doesn't live up to it.  Well, this week McNabb lived up to his end of the bargain with an outstanding performance, 18-of-33 for 354 yards and 3 touchdowns (one rushing).

McNabb showed that he is the reason why the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl two years ago and not O.D. (I mean T.O.)  McNabb's performance was awesome but when you take into account that he was missing his number one receiver than that is freakish.
