Freak of the Week - Week 6

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

Smokin' Joe - Steve Smith

Steve Smith owners have been waiting for their number one receiver to show up after nursing his sore hamstring all preseason and the first two games of the season.

In week five he put up big numbers, 8 catches for 189 yards and a touchdowns which is unbelievable.  This is the first time he has gone over 100 yards and caught a touchdown pass in the same game this season.

He was so good he almost made up for the fact that I had Plummer as my starting quarterback.

CrunchTime - Torry Holt

In a week of amazing wide receiver play, Holt led the way. He's been the only marquee receiver performing up to expectations, and this week he went above and beyond. Not only was he able to compile 154 yards on 8 catches, he was also able to get into the end zone multiple times.

After scoring in each of the first two quarters, Holt was able to beat double coverage, juggle the ball, and take it the rest of the way for a 67-yard touchdown that gave the Rams the lead with less than 2 minutes to play.

While they weren't able to hold onto the lead, most of Holt's fantasy owners didn't have that same issue this week. He definitely was a Freak this week.

The Sandman - Joe Horn

A couple of years ago Horn was a top-ten fantasy receiver. From 2000 through 2004 he averaged 1,257 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns per year.

The last two years have been full of injuries, leading to a total of 925 yards and 1 touchdown. This week Horn reminded everyone of what he can still do, posting 6 receptions for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Horn's best season came when the Saints had a balanced attack and that is exactly what the Saints have this year.
