Freak of the Week - Week 2

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

StingRay - Steve Smith

If you are a Steve Smith owner like I am then you have to love what you saw out of him on Sunday.  Smith caught 8 passes for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns. The first touchdown he tipped a ball over the defender’s head in the end zone and then caught it. Smith’s third touchdown pass was even better.  He caught a short pass then broke through a number of tackles and took it 74 yards for the touchdown.

Steve Smith has delivered the first two weeks of the season with 4 touchdowns and over 100-yards receiving in both games this year.

Smokin' Joe - Tom Brady

There were players with more fantasy points then Brady, but nobody was more impressive.  Brady completed 25 of 31 passed for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns against a very good Chargers defense.

Brady was great against the Jets last week but everyone was wondering if his play was camera-aided.  Well there was little doubt this week after his team took the opening kickoff and drove right down field for a touchdown. Cameras or no cameras, Brady’s numbers are Freakish after 2 weeks he is completing 79% of his passes and has 6 touchdowns.

CrunchTime - Andre Johnson

Many had high hopes for Johnson coming into this season based on his ability to produce in spite of having a suspect quarterback in recent years. I'm not sure people quite expected what he's done through the first two weeks of the season though.

In week two Johnson had his second straight 7 reception game and did it in a much more balanced fashion. Although his longest reception was only 33 yards, he was still able to pile up 120 yards and on top of that he was able to reach the end zone twice.

That's definitely good enough to make him a Freak of the Week in my book, but to be honest I'm even more impressed by his 262 receiving yards and 3 scores through two games. (It's also worth noting that all of Schaub's passing touchdowns have landed on the hands of Johnson.).

The Sandman - Bengals / Browns

If someone had told me that the Bengals / Brown’s game would be the game of the week I would have been shocked.  If they said that the two teams would combine for over 1,000 yards and almost 100 points, I would have had them committed to the local mental institution. Needless to say, that is exactly what happened on Sunday.

From a fantasy perspective it was amazing: Carson Palmer (33-of-50 for 401 yards and 6 touchdowns), Rudi Johnson, (151 total yards and a touchdown), Chad Johnson (11 receptions for 209 yards and two touchdowns), T.J. Houshmandzadeh (8 receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns) all had big games. Derek Anderson (20-of-33 for 325 yards and 5 touchdowns), Jamal Lewis (28 carries for 215 yards and a touchdown), Braylon Edwards (8 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns), Kellen Winslow (6 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown) and Joe Jurevicius (4 receptions for 44 yards and two touchdowns) also joined the party.

Hopefully you had some of these players on your team since it might have taken more than the usual to get a win last week.
