Freak of the Week - Week 6

The NFLFreaks Salute the True NFL Freaks

StingRay - Wes Welker

My Freak of the week goes to New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker who killed the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday with a monster game.

Welker had 11 receptions for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Those were career high numbers for Welker who has been a great addition the New England offense.  Wes is second on the team in receptions (2 behind Moss) and receiving yardage.

Smokin' Joe - Adrian Peterson

The numbers Peterson put up in week six speak for themselves - 20 carries for 224 yards and 3 touchdowns. That comes out to 11 YARDS A CARRY!!!.

This performance brings his season totals to a league leading 607 yards and a 6.3 yards per carry average.  I stayed away from the rookie back on draft day because I thought they would bring him along slowly behind Chester Taylor. Oops, Peterson has had over 100 total yards in each of his games and is averaging 156 total yards per game.

The Sandman - Vinny Testaverde

On Monday, Vinny green balls* was on his couch, Tuesday he was in Carolina to audition for a quarterback job.  Late on Tuesday he signed with the Panthers who needed someone to backup David Carr after Jake Delhomme was placed on the injured reserved list.

On Friday, Carr's back stiffened up on the plane ride to Arizona so it was Vinny who ended up behind center on Sunday.  Testaverde, who is 43 years old, didn’t do anything special (20-of-33 for 206 yards and a touchdown) but he is my freak since he showed that he can go from the couch to field and still lead his team to victory.

* Editor's Note:  I believe that this is a literal translation of his last name.
