Hall of Shame - Week 1

Everybody Knows Your Name

I don't care who you are; Player, Coach, Broadcaster, Writer, you name it.  You sucked, and we're going to tell you why.

The Sandman - NY Jets Offense

Will someone please tell me how an offense can continue to run patterns that are 2 yards short of the first down in every third down situation?  Thursday night's game was about as bad as it gets for an offense, 158 total yards.

Everyone from head coach Herman Edwards to geritol man Vinny Testaverde has some explaining to do.  Five yard outs and hitches just don't get it done in the NFL.  Edwards said that the offense would change to accommodate Testaverde's strengths but if that was his strength, I would hate to see his weakness. Welcome to the hall J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!

StingRay - Bill Belichick

What on earth was he thinking when he released team captain Lawyer Milloy the week of a big divisional game?  If it was strictly a salary cap move then why not do it in the off-season?  New England had done everything right up until the release of Milloy.

The Patriots had a solid draft and acquired a lot of picks for next year.  The additions of Rosevelt Colvin, Ted Washington and Rodney Harrison was supposed to put this team over the top.

The Patriots looked awesome in preseason and everybody in New England was talking Super bowl. Then what does the Belichick do?  He cuts the team captain which totally shocks the players and fans of New England.  When I first heard the news I told Smokin' Joe that the Bills should pick him up seeing that they were playing the Patriots that week and to my surprise they did. Do you think it had an effect on both teams?  Oh yes it did.

The Bills came out fired up and with Milloy being the ex-captain of the Patriots I know that he prepared the  Bills with all sorts of insights on the different packages and schemes the Patriots would run on Sunday.  The Patriots were totally flat as the players were all still stunned and upset about Milloy's release.

This was a very dumb move by the Patriots. The AFC East will be a battle all year long and I truly believe that only the winner of this division will make the playoffs and this game could cost the Patriots big-time. Shame on you Belichick for disrupting your team's chemistry right before the season.

Crunch Time - Mike Martz

Apparently Martz has forgotten all that was learned last year in the Rams' abysmal start.  Last year they played poorly, lost consistently, and had an all around bad start to the year.

Then enters Bulger, but more importantly, then enters sense.  Martz starts to give the ball to his MVP, all-world runningback Marshall Faulk, and suddenly they win six straight.

In week one's embarrassing start Martz calls for runs by Faulk an idiotically low 9 times.  That, in itself, is enough for my shame list but unfortunately it doesn't stop there.

Martz showed a remarkable fear of the media. He was so afraid that the talks of quarterback controversy would resurface that he left Warner in to the tune of 6 fumbles, 1 interception, and a loss. Not only that, it turns out that he had a concussion all the while.

On the sidelines is arguably the best backup in the game and he goes unused.  Put him in if Warner's injured.  Put him in if Warner is stinking up the field. Don't just stand there and watch your precious offense grind to a halt.

Smokin' Joe - Tom Brady

Tom was terrible in his 2003 opening game. He posted the worst numbers of his career. (14-29, 123 yards, 4 INTs)  I just have one question, how does a quarterback throw an interception for a touchdown to a 350 pound nose tackle (Sam Adams) on a screen pass?

I did not know it was possible. Thanks for clearing that up Tom.  Welcome to the hall.
