Hall of Shame - Week 7

Everybody Knows Your Name

I don't care who you are; Player, Coach, Broadcaster, Writer, you name it.  You sucked, and we're going to tell you why.

Another staff favorite, our Hall of Shame picks highlight our individual selections for the worst sports-related performers of the week.

StingRay - Bill Parcells and the Dallas Cowboys

On Monday night back in week 2 the Dallas Cowboys looked like they were going to be 2-0 as they led the Washington Redskins 13-0 with a few minutes left in the game. At that time, Bill Parcells' teams were 77-0 when leading by at least 13 in the 4th quarter. Instead of getting the sure victory at home, the Cowboys allowed Mark Brunell to throw two touchdown passes to Santana Moss in the closing minutes to win that game.

Two weeks ago the Cowboys were ahead 13- 6 against the New York Giants and they allowed Jeremy Shockey to catch a touchdown pass in the closing seconds to force overtime. The Cowboys managed to win that game but again, they blew a lead late in the game.

Last Sunday the Cowboys went on the road and played a great game in Seattle for 3+ quarters. They held Shaun Alexander out of the end zone and Matt Hasselbeck had two interceptions and no touchdown passes.  However, like the prior weeks, Matt Hasselbeck managed to throw the game tying touchdown with 40 seconds left in the game. Drew Bledsoe then threw a terrible interception and the Seahawks won the game on a 50 yard field goal kicked by Josh Brown.

The Cowboys should be 6-1 but instead they are in last place in the NFC East with a record of 4-3. (The rest of the NFC East is 4-2.) These two collapses by the defense could cost the Cowboys a playoff spot.

Shame on you Tuna for not teaching this team how to finish a game!

Smokin Joe - Chris Brown

The Titans brought in Travis Henry this off-season because they knew they couldn't count on Chris Brown to stay healthy for a 16 game season.

Henry has been out the last 4 weeks for violating the league's substance abuse policy so this was the perfect opportunity for Brown to lock up the starting job. He failed miserably.

Henry is coming back next week and should start to steal plenty of carries because Brown does not have a 100 yard rushing game so far this year and he left the game in the second quarter on Sunday with a shoulder injury.  The injury isn't being considered serious, but 10 carries for 37 yards before the injury is seriously underperforming and has opened the door for Henry.

CrunchTime - Carson Palmer

Palmer has been praised at every turn this season. It is to some extent deserved, with his 72.6 completion percentage and 13 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. However, this was to be a different week.

With Pittsburgh in town this marked the most important game of the season for the Bengals and Palmer was shut down. His completion percentage wasn’t abysmal but was down about 15% and he matched his season total for interceptions with another 2.

If we’re going to consider him a top tier quarterback, then he’s going to get criticized like one.  As a result he gets his first visit to the Hall of Shame.

The Sandman - LaDanian Tomlinson

It is not often that the best running back in the league will win this award put this week there is no other choice for me. Tomlinson, who had scored a least one touchdown in eighteen straight weeks, had a terrible performance against the Eagles.

The Eagles were determined to let someone else beside Tomlinson beat them as they dedicated eight and nine players to stopping the run. The defense worked as Tomlinson had only 7 yards rushing on 17 carries.

This is the world we live in, one week he has three touchdowns and the next he gets to hear these famous words, Welcome to the Hall L.T.
