Hall of Shame - Week 3

Everybody Knows Your Name

I don't care who you are; Player, Coach, Broadcaster, Writer, you name it.  You sucked, and we're going to tell you why.

Another staff favorite, our Hall of Shame picks highlight our individual selections for the worst sports-related performers of the week.

StingRay - Bill Belichick / Laurence Maroney

I don’t know what Maroney has done to receive no trust by Patriots head coach Bill Belichick but evidently Belichick will not give Maroney the ball on the goal line.

Hindsight and yours truly were at the game in Foxboro to witness the lack of goal line carries for Maroney who both of us own in different leagues.  In the 2nd quarter Maroney ran for 7 yards and got the ball down to the 3 yard line.  Does Maroney get another shot?  No!  Tom Brady attempted a quarterback sneak and fumbled the football.

Later on in the 2nd quarter after the Patriots are on the 2 yard line I was hoping for Maroney to score.  Do they give it to Maroney? No!  They gave it to Heath Evans who lost a yard.  The next play was the 3-yard touchdown toss to Randy Moss.

Towards the end of the 3rd quarter Maroney ran for 7 yards down to the Buffalo 1.  You think that finally he will score his first touchdown of the season.  Right?  Nope. The Patriots play-action and take a sack.  The next play is a touchdown pass to Jabbar Gaffney. (Who?)

Later on in the game the Patriots are down on the goal line again and Sammy Morris gets the touchdown carry.  All of us owners who were suckered into thinking Maroney would get goal line touchdowns now that Corey Dillon is gone have been bamboozeled.

Shame on you Belichick for making me waste a high draft pick on one Laurence Maroney.

Smokin' Joe - Javon Walker

Walker had two 100 yard games to start the season which is what made this week's performance all the more surprising.  Two catches for 10 yards killed lots of owners’ chances this week and was not very helpful to his team as the Broncos fell at home to the Jaguars 23 – 14.

Boy, I wish I played Kevin Curtis.

CrunchTime- Rex Grossman

I've held out as long as I can, trying to give Grossman some slack and (nearly) defending him against people jumping on the bashing bandwagon, but I have to finally concede that he's just done.

While I don't want to take anything away from the Dallas defense, there are two dozen high school DB's who would have made those picks the way Grossman stares down his receivers.

After three games he's now gotten his passer rating under 50, and he has a 6 to 1 interception to touchdown ratio. (Even for me that's not too hard to calculate considering he has only 1 touchdown.)

While I'm only putting him in the Hall for this week, I may see if we can retroactively have him admitted for weeks one and two as well. I don't blame the fans for their unified cries for Griese.
